Jupiter Florida Hurricane News
We survived two recent hurricanes which hit the West Coast of Florida. The second one did cross our State just a bit North of Jupiter. WE saw very little rain and wind gust to 50 mph. Overall it was an event that could have been worse. What we haven't seen in the past is the sheer number of tornadoes that hit Avenir and headed Northeast going through Jupiter Farms, Stuart and Ft. Pierce. There were literally hundreds of them with various strengths and overall damage was limited to small areas but the damage was crazy. Along the coast where the Jupiter oceanfront condos are we saw very little damage which is usually where we see the most damage from hurricanes.
In Avenir several brand new homes were destroyed. The Publix shopping center lost it's roof. In Ft. Pierce a mobile home Park had quite a bit of damage plus several deaths. Overall it could have been worse but just more issues for Florida insurance increases.
We may see more owners on the West Coast just take their insurance money and go somewhere else. They won't wait to rebuild or the insurance money will not be enough to rebuild. The cost to build Jupiter homes is much higher than other areas. Some may head to the Carolinas, others may come to the East Coast of Florida to cities like Melbourne where we see less frequency of hurricanes and housing prices are less. One thing for sure is storms are not good news for Florida real estate.
